Richard Avedon was born in the city of New York on May 15, 1923. Avedon was born to a Russian-Jewish family that originally were immigrants. Avedon began his photo carrier in 1944, where he quickly became well known to the public eye. Avedon went on to take pictures of several famous people including Dwight D. Eisenhower, Andy Warhol, Marilyn Monroe, Ezra Pound, Isak Dinesen, and Buster Keaton. Notably, Avedon created his own book, "American West" in 1985 and it includes some of Avedon's most famous work. Avedon's work is displayed in many places throughout the United States of America. Specifically, one can find his work in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts in 1970. The Metropolitan Museum of Art , Whitney Museum of American Art and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. He is also well known around the world.
